Abstract :The research was conducted to determine the effect of listening to white noise and heart sounds during the sternum dressing process on the pain felt by newborns who had congenital heart surgery. The research sample consisted of 48 newborns who underwent cardiac surgery in a training and research hospital in Istanbul and met the sample selection criteria. Newborn Pain Scale (NIPS) was used to assess pain. It was seen that there was a statistically significant difference in terms of physiological parameter values evaluated between the groups during the sternum dressing procedure (p<0.001). There was a statistically significant difference in NIPS pain scores during the sternum dressing procedure between the groups (p<0.001). NIPS pain scale scores of newborns in the control group were found to be significantly higher than those in the heart sound and white noise group, and the NIPS pain scale score of the heart sound group was found to be similar to the white noise group (p<0.001). These findings support the conclusion that listening to white noise and heart sounds during sternum dressing in newborns are effective methods for reducing pain. Keywords : ağrı, hemşire, yenidoğan
