Abstract :Özet Bu makalede, Ortaçağda matematik bilimlerden biri olarak kabul gören ve matematiğin uygulamalı dalları arasında değerlendirilen müziğin oluşum ve biçimlenmesinde matematiğin yeri, rolü araştırilmıştır. Özellikle biçime dair problemlerden,gamın kurulması, müziğin iskeleti sayilan ses sistemlerinin oluşmasında etkili olan matematik ilişkiler üzerinde durulmuştur. Dikkatler, doğu ve batı müziklerinin kurgusunda, icrasında, makam ve usul (rilm) gibi temel bileşenlerinin ifade edilişinde, teknik aletlerin geliştirilmesinde ve tabii ki analitik incelenmesinde büyük yeri olan matematik paya çekilmiştir.
