Abstract :Humor is a phenomenon that requires social reasoning. This article deals with a humor translation analysis based on the German and Turkish dubbing of the American sitcom series Modern Family. The examples for analysis were randomly selected from various episodes. For the theoretical framework, a number of important theories of humor, humor translation, and the translation of audiovisual media are examined in detail. The analysis is intended to provide an answer to the ever-present question of the (un)translatability of humor. For the analysis of the texts and dialogues, an analysis set was compiled consisting of the humor techniques of Juckel, Bellman and Varan, the taxonomy of humorous elements of Martinez-Sierra, and the translation strategies of Vinay and Darbelnet. Each example consists of three parts presenting the source text and the target texts in German and Turkish. Finally, for the evaluation of the target texts, detailed explanations on whether the humorousness is still present and the comparison of the respective languages are given.
