Abstract :This case study attempts to investigate English as a foreign language (EFL) students’ self-perceived learner autonomy and its relation to academic achievement. The sample consisted of a total of 8 students attending the Department of English Language and Literature at a major university in northeastern Turkey. The data were obtained via semi-structured face-to-face interviews. The study indicated that the students who claim to be autonomous seem to have higher academic achievement. The findings also pointed out that the students were aware that there might strong relationship between their level of learner autonomy and their academic achievement. It concludes that as long as students are given an opportunity, students have the potential of being autonomous and successful accordingly. Keywords : Öğrenen özerkliği, akademik başarı, İngilizce, Yabancı dil
