THE INVESTIGATION OF PRE-SCHOOL TEACHERS’ ECOLOGICAL LITERACY LEVEL

Abstract :Teacher serve an important role in equipping preschool children with the skills of ecological literacy, which is defined as understanding the language of nature and acting in accordance with the language of nature. Hence, the main purpose of this research is to examine the ecological literacy knowledge and awareness levels of preschool teachers. In this study, basic qualitative research method was used and Turkey\`s 155 preschool teachers working in different provinces participated. In data collection, an interview form developed by the researchers, containing demographic information questions and case study questions related to the Australian Fire, were used. Descriptive analysis was used to analyse the data. The respondents insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(n=119,81%); expressed that they are not a member of any non-governmental organization related to environment / nature / ecological literacy issues while insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(n=28,19%); are mostly members of TEMA Foundation. Whilst insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(n=86,55.5%); of the respondents stated that they have heard of the concept of ecological literacy before insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(n=69,44.5%); of the respondents stated that they do not. Participants’ definitions of ecological literacy were found in line with literature, and their responses to questions showed they have ecological literacy knowledge, but what extent their knowledge is reflected to their behaviour, needs investigation. Accordingly, ecological literacy trainings can be organized for preschool teachers.Keywords : okulöncesi dönem, çevre eğitimi, sürdürülebilirlik
