Abstract :Aim: The purpose of the study was to compare the effect of different finishing and polishing procedures of the monolithic CAD-CAM ceramic on optical properties after ultraviolet (UV) aging. Material and Methods: The zirconia reinforced lithium silicate ceramic (Vita Suprinity) was selected for this study in 1.5 mm thickness. Totally 42 specimens were prepared and divided randomly to six groups based on the finishing-polishing techniques with disc, polishing paste and glazing or combinations (n=7). Color change measurements of the specimens were performed on a gray background before and after UV aging. Translucency values on white and black background were calculated after UV aging according to CIEDE2000 formula. The Kruskal Wallis H and post-hoc Dunn tests were used for the statistical anlayses (P<0.05). Results: Effect of finishing-polishing procedures were found statistically significant in terms of color change and translucency (P<0.001). The highest color change was found in the just crystallized specimens. The specimens polished with polishing paste after crystallization and glazing showed the lowest color change. The lowest translucency were presented in the specimens that just crystallized. The highest translucency were presented in ceramics crystallized with glaze and also presented statistical difference when compared to crystallized, crystallized+polished with discs, and crystallized+polished with polishing paste ceramics (P<0.001). Conclusion: Finishing the ceramic restorations is an important step for long term clinical use. Glazing or mechanical polishing of the zirconia reinforced lithium silicate ceramic produce similar results in terms of optical properties. Crystallization with glazing together can be used as a quick and reliable finishing.
