Abstract :Aim: This study investigates the effect of different composite resins and surface treatments on the repair strength of a resin matrix ceramic. Material and Methods: Sixty resin matrix ceramic samples were divided into three main groups based on the surface treatments (Diamond bur roughening, hydrofluoric acid roughening, no surface treatment). Each main group was further divided into two subgroups depending on the type of composite resin (Nanoceramic and nanohybrid composite resins) bonded. Shear bond strength testing was performed for all groups at a 0.5 mm/min approach speed after thermal ageing. For all statistical comparisons in the study, p<0.05 was the level of statistical significance. Results: The results showed that the highest shear bond strength was obtained in the group that underwent hydrofluoric acid surface treatment and was bonded with nanoceramic composite (18.17±4.48 MPa). On the other hand, the lowest shear bond strength was observed in the nanohybrid group (3.64±0.9 MPa), which did not undergo any surface treatment. The group that underwent hydrofluoric acid roughening showed significantly higher shear bond strength than those without surface treatment and those roughened with a diamond bur. Additionally, the nanoceramic-bonded groups had significantly higher shear bond strength than the nanohybrid-bonded groups. Conclusions: Based on these findings, it can be concluded that resin matrix ceramics that are treated with hydrofluoric acid and bonded with nanoceramic provide better repair strength.
